We're an independent natural foods store that believes good food, good health, and strong communities begin with people who care. Healthy communities need more than healthy products. They need businesses that are accountable to the people they serve.

As a long-standing business in the community, our goal has been simple: to support the health and well-being of Southeast Missouri by offering thoughtfully chosen food, everyday essentials, and wellness products; by employing knowledgeable staff who care about customers; and by supporting independent businesses that keep our economy more diverse, local, and accountable.

What we carry (and what we don’t) reflects those commitments.

How We Choose Products

Every product here is reviewed and chosen locally, by real people (not algorithms or corporate buying teams) with our community in mind. Selection isn’t automated or outsourced. It’s discussed, evaluated, and revisited over time.

In general, we prioritize food, wellness, and everyday products made without:

  • Artificial colors
  • Artificial sweeteners
  • Synthetic fragrances
  • Growth hormones
  • Routine antibiotics
  • Ingredients used primarily to cut costs rather than add value
We look for ingredient integrity, meaningful benefits, clear purpose, transparent sourcing, and companies that stand behind what they make.

Why Ownership Matters

Who makes a product matters just like the ingredients matter.

We actively favor independently owned companies and smaller producers whenever possible. Ownership affects how products are formulated, how businesses respond to feedback, and how accountable they are to the people who buy from them.

While we do carry products from larger companies, those items are selected deliberately and held to the same standards of transparency and quality as everything else on our shelves. Scale alone does not earn a place here.

In many cases, this means choosing a family-owned herbal company over a corporate alternative, supporting an independent food producer instead of a national conglomerate, or helping a local maker earn their first shelf space.

Local When Possible. Thoughtful Always.

We value local and regional sourcing when quality and consistency allow, but we don’t apply a one‑size‑fits‑all rule.

Some ingredients and products are best sourced beyond our immediate area due to climate, supply, or quality considerations. Our guiding principle is simple: choose the best option for the product, the customer, and the long term. 

Products earn their place on our shelves through quality, value, integrity, and customer trust.

Chosen by People Who Know Our Community

Our selection is shaped by people who work in the store, listen to customers, and understand the needs of our community. Customers can ask questions, offer feedback, and influence what earns and keeps a place on our shelves.

Our job is not to have a quick answer for everything. It is to listen carefully, be honest about what we know, and help customers feel confident about the choices they make.

Not Everything — Just the Right Things

You won’t find everything here.  You will find products chosen by people rather than distant buying offices, from companies we trust, made with ingredients we believe in, and selected with our community in mind.

That’s the standard we hold ourselves to and we revisit it constantly.
